Michael Horning began as a builder. In 1990 he founded Michael Horning Design Build, and over four decades he designed, built, and renovated homes and commercial spaces, all while watching the cabinet industry fail the contractors who depended on it. Snap Cabinetry is what he built instead.
Michael’s grandfather was a Millwork carpenter. So were several of his uncles. He started woodworking at 14, and the craft was never far from what he did next.
He spent a decade in retail kitchen design, learning the showroom side of the trade. The specs, the client expectations, the gap between what gets sold and what gets built. That experience informed everything that came after.
He founded Michael Horning Design Build in 1990. His background as a home designer and builder matters. A builder understands construction from the ground up, and that brings a different perspective to the work: structural integrity, job-site realities, and the product decisions that determine how a space performs over time.
Over the following decades he moved into full custom home design and large-scale residential renovations across Northeast Ohio. His son and spouse are part of the business. Snap Cabinetry is a family operation, built on 40 years of combined experience in the trade.
Michael Horning Design Build has earned recognition as a multi-year award-winning builder in both residential and commercial construction. The work spans custom homes, major renovations, and most recently, commercial projects that Michael began taking on later in his career.
The reputation is built on the quality of the finished product and the reliability of the process. Clients who hire Michael know what they’re getting. That same standard carried forward into every decision made about Snap Cabinetry.
After four decades in the trade, Michael had a complete picture of everything wrong with the cabinet industry. Six-week lead times. Three-inch size increments. Forty-to-fifty percent premiums for anything custom. Overseas materials with unknown adhesives. Assembly processes that ate half a day per kitchen.
Snap Cabinetry is what happens when a builder with 40 years of experience decides to fix those problems directly. It’s not a product designed to compete in a showroom. It’s a system designed to perform on a job site: faster assembly, true custom sizing, domestic materials, and lead times that keep a schedule intact.
Now he’s making it available to the trade.
The cabinet industry hasn’t changed meaningfully in decades. The same lead times. The same size increments. The same overseas sourcing with the same opaque material story.
Michael spent 40 years working around those problems before deciding to solve them. The result is a system designed entirely around what a contractor needs on a job site, not what looks good in a showroom catalog.
Come see it in person and judge for yourself.
No sales team. No regional rep. When you come to the showroom, you’re talking to the person who built the system, knows every spec, and can answer every question about how it fits your business.
